Why Heroku estates drift
Config vars are the recurring finding. They are the correct place for credentials, but they are visible to every collaborator on the app, they are inherited by review apps, and they are rarely rotated when someone leaves the team or a service is decommissioned.
The database is the second. A Heroku Postgres instance reachable from anywhere with a credential that has not changed since provisioning is a common arrangement, and Private Spaces or mutual TLS are often assumed rather than configured.
ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI DSS and Cyber Essentials Plus audits accept manual penetration test evidence. Scan-only evidence is generally insufficient.

Frequently Asked
Is the Heroku platform in scope?
No. We pen test your applications and your configuration, which is where the findings are. Attacking Salesforce’s infrastructure is neither useful nor permitted.
We are planning to migrate off Heroku. Is this still worth doing?
Often more so. A migration is when credentials get copied, review apps get abandoned and add-ons get forgotten. Knowing what you are carrying before you move it is cheaper than discovering it afterwards.
Do you need admin access to our Heroku account?
Read access to config, add-ons and collaborators makes it far more thorough. Without it we test the deployed applications only, which misses most of the estate-level findings.
What about Private Spaces?
In scope if you use them. We check whether the network isolation is actually configured as assumed, including add-on reachability and outbound traffic from dynos.
