Vue.js Penetration Testing
Vue escapes output by default and gives you one directive that does not. We test that directive, the router guards, the store and the API underneath. CREST-certified testers, fixed price from £2,380, scoped in 24 hours.
- Unlimited retesting
- No rescheduling or cancellation fees
- Fixed quote within 24 hours
“I would highly recommend EJN Labs to any organisation seeking reliable, detailed, and well-managed penetration testing services, particularly for government or enterprise-level projects.”
“There wasn’t another company we could find that could deliver what we needed in the timeframe we needed. The client loved it, and we got instant ROI from the engagement.”
Interpolation is escaped, so cross-site scripting in a Vue application almost always arrives through a deliberate choice: rendering HTML from a rich text field, a markdown component, or a third party widget dropped into a slot. We find every one of those and test what reaches them.
Vue is safe by default and honest about the exception
Router guards are the second area, and the point is the same as in any single page application. A guard changes what the interface offers, not what the API returns, so we take the guarded routes and call the endpoints behind them with a low privileged token.
Then Nuxt, if you use it. Server-side rendering introduces request forgery from the server, state that is hydrated into the page for anyone to read, and server routes that look internal but are not.
ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI DSS and Cyber Essentials Plus audits accept manual penetration test evidence. Scan-only evidence is generally insufficient.
VUE SPECIFICS
What We Actually Test in a Vue Application
Ten test areas that apply because the front end is Vue or Nuxt, on top of the standard application checks. Every finding is verified, reproducible and mapped to OWASP, CWE and CVSS 3.1.
Template rendering
Uses of v-html and dynamic components, sanitiser configuration, and rich text or markdown paths.
Router guards versus the API
Guarded routes mapped to endpoints and called directly with each role we are given.
Store and state
Pinia or Vuex state persisted across sessions, and data cached from one user and visible to the next.
Nuxt server routes
Server handlers, request forgery from the server, and the boundary between server and client code.
Hydration payloads
What the server serialises into the page, including fields the interface never displays.
Token handling
Where the access token lives, refresh behaviour, and what logout clears.
API contract
Every endpoint the application calls, tested for object level authorisation and mass assignment.
Build artefacts
Source maps, environment variables inlined at build time, and chunk files that disclose admin functionality.
Third party components
Component libraries and plugins, their update posture, and what they render from your data.
Headers and policy
Content security policy, clickjacking protection, and cross-origin configuration for the API.
METHODOLOGY
What a Vue finding looks like
Written the way a finding appears in our reports. The example below is reconstructed from publicly documented research, with hosts, paths and identifiers redacted. We do not republish client findings, named or anonymised.
Raw HTML directive on user supplied content gives stored cross-site scripting
- Affected
- The announcement banner rendered on every authenticated page of [redacted], written by any account holding the editor role.
- What we found
- The announcement field was rendered with the raw HTML directive rather than text interpolation. A payload in that field executed for every user who loaded the application, including the two administrator accounts.
- Why it matters
- Privilege escalation from editor to administrator through session theft, with the payload running on page load rather than needing anyone to click.
- Fix
- Render the field with text interpolation, or sanitise with a maintained library before using the raw HTML directive. Treat editor as an untrusted role and add a content security policy.
Reconstructed from public research: the Vue security guide, which warns that rendering arbitrary HTML with the v-html directive can easily lead to cross-site scripting.
Vue Penetration Testing: From Scope to Attestation
CREST-aligned methodology built on OWASP Web Security Testing Guide, OWASP ASVS, NIST SP 800-115, and PTES. Each finding maps to all four standards plus your specific compliance regime.
Reconnaissance
Application mapping, technology fingerprinting, content discovery, parameter enumeration, authentication-flow analysis, role-matrix construction.
Vulnerability Assessment
Authenticated and unauthenticated automated scanning across every user role, plus targeted manual checks for known weakness patterns.
Manual Exploitation
Hands-on testing by a CREST-certified pentester. Business-logic exploitation, chained vulnerabilities, privilege escalation, impact validation.
Reporting + Retest
Executive summary, technical report with CVSS scores and reproduction steps, walkthrough call, free retest after remediation, attestation letter.
CREDENTIALS
Verified Accreditations Auditors Accept
Every credential below is independently verifiable. UK procurement teams, FCA supervisors, ISO 27001 / SOC 2 auditors, and cyber insurance underwriters all recognise these standards.

FAQ
Frequently Asked
Do you test Vue 2 as well as Vue 3?
Yes. Vue 2 reached end of life, so we will be clear about which findings only a migration fixes.
Is Nuxt covered here?
Yes, including server routes and rendering. If the application is mostly server rendered we say so in the scope.
Do you need the repository?
No. We work from the deployed build.
Is the API included?
Yes, by default, and that is where most findings come from.
What about Quasar or Vuetify?
Component libraries are in scope as part of the application, including how they render your content.
Can you test a Vue application behind SSO?
Yes. We ask for test accounts at each role level.
What is included in the price?
Scoping, testing, the executive summary, the technical report, a walkthrough call and free retests until the finding is closed. One scope, one number, no follow-up invoices.
How fast can you start?
Scope to active testing in 24 hours once the scope is agreed, subject to tester availability in your window.
Are your testers CREST certified?
Yes. EJN Labs is a CREST member company and testing is delivered by CREST-qualified testers. The membership is verifiable on the CREST marketplace.
