Sitecore Penetration Testing for Enterprise Deployments
Sitecore is rarely one application. It is a Content Manager, one or more Content Delivery instances, xConnect, a search index and a pile of custom pipelines. We pen test the seams between them, which is where the serious findings sit. CREST-certified testers, fixed price from £3,380, scoped in 24 hours.
- Unlimited retesting
- No rescheduling or cancellation fees
- Fixed quote within 24 hours
“I would highly recommend EJN Labs to any organisation seeking reliable, detailed, and well-managed penetration testing services, particularly for government or enterprise-level projects.”
“There wasn’t another company we could find that could deliver what we needed in the timeframe we needed. The client loved it, and we got instant ROI from the engagement.”
A correctly deployed Sitecore estate keeps the Content Manager off the public internet and exposes only Content Delivery. A great many estates do not, and the ones that do often leave xConnect, the identity server or the search index reachable instead.
Why Sitecore findings are architectural
Sitecore has also had a run of serious, actively exploited vulnerabilities in recent years, several of them reachable without authentication. Version and patch level therefore matters more here than on most platforms, and we check it against what is actually deployed rather than what the documentation says should be.
Beyond that it is the security model: roles, security fields on items, and whether a Content Delivery instance can be made to render something it should not. Sitecore is one of several content platforms we publish pages for and we pen test others besides.
ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI DSS and Cyber Essentials Plus audits accept manual penetration test evidence. Scan-only evidence is generally insufficient.
TOPOLOGY, ROLES + PIPELINES
What we actually pen test on a Sitecore estate
Manual pen testing across instance separation and exposure, the item security model, xConnect and every custom pipeline in the solution.
Instance separation and exposure
Whether Content Manager, xConnect, the identity server and the search index are reachable from the internet, and what an unauthenticated visitor can reach on each.
Known Sitecore vulnerabilities
Deployed version and patch level established from behaviour rather than claim, then matched against known exploited Sitecore vulnerabilities, with manual verification of anything reachable in your configuration.
Roles and item security
Role inheritance, security fields on items and templates, and whether an author or reviewer can reach, publish or delete content outside their remit.
xConnect and contact data
Whether the xConnect endpoints enforce certificate authentication, what contact and personal data is retrievable, and whether the collection or search roles are exposed.
Custom pipelines and code
Custom processors, controller renderings and API endpoints tested for injection, insecure deserialisation, unsafe model binding and missing authorisation.
Media and upload handling
Media library upload validation, file type handling, path traversal, and whether uploaded content can be executed on either the Content Manager or a Content Delivery instance.
METHODOLOGY
Sitecore Penetration Testing: From Scope to Attestation
CREST-aligned methodology built on OWASP Web Security Testing Guide, OWASP ASVS, NIST SP 800-115, and PTES. Each finding maps to all four standards plus your specific compliance regime.
Reconnaissance
Application mapping, technology fingerprinting, content discovery, parameter enumeration, authentication-flow analysis, role-matrix construction.
Vulnerability Assessment
Authenticated and unauthenticated automated scanning across every user role, plus targeted manual checks for known weakness patterns.
Manual Exploitation
Hands-on testing by a CREST-certified pentester. Business-logic exploitation, chained vulnerabilities, privilege escalation, impact validation.
Reporting + Retest
Executive summary, technical report with CVSS scores and reproduction steps, walkthrough call, free retest after remediation, attestation letter.
CREDENTIALS
Verified Accreditations Auditors Accept
Every credential below is independently verifiable. UK procurement teams, FCA supervisors, ISO 27001 / SOC 2 auditors, and cyber insurance underwriters all recognise these standards.

FAQ
Frequently Asked
Do you test XM Cloud as well as on-premises?
Yes. XM Cloud shifts the infrastructure questions to Sitecore but leaves the security model, custom code and front-end integration with you, and that is where we focus. On-premises and containerised deployments get the full architectural review as well.
Which environments should be in scope?
At minimum a Content Delivery instance, and ideally Content Manager too. Testing only the public site misses the majority of what matters, because the serious Sitecore findings tend to sit on the authoring side.
Will this disrupt content authors?
No. We schedule anything intrusive with you, avoid publishing operations entirely, and work read-only on the authoring side unless you explicitly ask us to pen test write paths.
Can you work with our implementation partner?
Yes, and it usually speeds things up. We share findings with whoever maintains the solution, join the remediation call if that helps, and retest free until everything closes.
How is this priced?
From £3,380 for a single Content Delivery instance with a standard configuration. Multiple environments, xConnect in scope and heavy customisation move it up, and we tell you the day count before you sign.
