Why a static host still has an attack surface
Redirect rules deserve particular attention. A rule proxying a path to an internal or third-party origin turns your domain into a server-side request forwarder, and a splat or placeholder in the wrong position can let a visitor choose the destination.
Deploy previews repeat the pattern we see across every modern host: a live, publicly addressable environment per branch, often carrying real environment variables. Netlify is one of several hosting platforms we publish pages for.

Frequently Asked
Are deploy previews really worth testing?
They are usually the first thing we find. A preview carrying production credentials behind an unauthenticated URL is a full data exposure, and because previews are transient nobody monitors them.
We only host a marketing site. Is this relevant?
Less so, and we will tell you if a full engagement is not warranted. If you run no functions, no proxy rules and no forms, a lighter scope or a general website pen test may serve you better and cost less.
Do you need repository access?
It makes function and rule testing much more thorough. We can work from the deployed site alone, but redirect rules and function logic are far easier to attack correctly when we can read them.
What about our headless CMS behind it?
Scope it in. The token the build uses to pull content is one of the more commonly exposed secrets on a Netlify project, and we have a headless CMS review page covering the platform side.
