Why record rules carry the whole model
That matters more than usual because Odoo exposes the ORM directly over XML-RPC and JSON-RPC. A user who can authenticate can call search_read against any model their access rights permit, and the interface’s careful hiding of a field or a menu counts for nothing at that layer.
Portal users and multi-company setups sharpen the question further. A portal user is an external person inside your ERP database, and a multi-company install relies on record rules to stop one company’s users reading another’s ledger.

Frequently Asked
Is the database manager really exposed?
It is one of the most common serious findings on internet-facing Odoo. If /web/database/manager is reachable and the master password is weak or default, an attacker can dump or drop your entire database. We check it first.
Do you test Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or self-hosted?
All three, with the scope shifting. Odoo Online is configuration and custom code. Odoo.sh adds the build and deployment surface. Self-hosted adds the server and we can scope that alongside.
Do you need administrator access?
We want accounts across several groups including a portal user, because the test is about boundaries. An administrator account helps enumeration, but the findings come from what the lower privileges reach.
What about our custom modules?
In scope by default, and usually where the interesting findings are. Custom modules frequently use sudo to get something working, which bypasses record rules entirely for everything that follows.
