“I would highly recommend EJN Labs to any organisation seeking reliable, detailed, and well-managed penetration testing services, particularly for government or enterprise-level projects.”
“There wasn’t another company we could find that could deliver what we needed in the timeframe we needed. The client loved it, and we got instant ROI from the engagement.”
The code your agency wrote is rarely the problem. The problem is the twelve-year-old gallery plugin, the form builder with a known unauthenticated flaw, and the theme that shipped with a demo importer still reachable. We enumerate what is installed and test what is reachable, rather than reciting a vulnerability feed.
Nobody attacks your website. They attack the plugin you forgot.
The second theme is exposure. Admin paths without rate limiting, user enumeration through the API, backups and database dumps in the web root, and the staging copy on a subdomain with the same data and none of the protection.
If the site takes payments, the third theme is the checkout: coupon and quantity logic, price handling, and the boundary between your site and the payment provider, which is where the PCI scope question is really decided.
ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI DSS and Cyber Essentials Plus audits accept manual penetration test evidence. Scan-only evidence is generally insufficient.
WEBSITE SPECIFICS
What We Actually Test on a Website
Ten areas that apply to a marketing site or CMS build, on top of the standard application checks. Every finding is verified, reproducible and mapped to OWASP, CWE and CVSS 3.1.
Core and version
The version actually running, known issues that apply to it, and the update posture around it.
Plugins, themes and extensions
What is installed, what is abandoned, what is reachable without authentication and what can be exploited today.
Admin exposure
Login paths, user enumeration, brute force protection, and whether two factor is available and used.
Roles and content permissions
What an editor or contributor can reach, and endpoints that answer without a session at all.
Uploads and media
Type checks, image processing, path handling and files that end up executable.
Forms and integrations
Injection and spam paths, third party embeds, tag managers and the scripts they load.
Commerce flows
Where present: checkout, coupons, price and quantity tampering, and the payment provider boundary.
Hosting and configuration
Directory exposure, backups and database dumps, file permissions and server headers.
Caching and CDN
Cache poisoning, personalised pages served from cache, and rules that bypass the origin protection.
Legacy and forgotten paths
Old URLs, parked subdomains, staging copies and previous installations still reachable.
METHODOLOGY
What a website finding looks like
Written the way a finding appears in our reports. The example below is reconstructed from publicly documented research, with hosts, paths and identifiers redacted. We do not republish client findings, named or anonymised.
Password reset link can be pointed at an attacker controlled host
- Affected
- The password reset flow on [redacted], reachable by anyone who knows a registered email address.
- What we found
- The reset email was built from the host header of the incoming request. Requesting a reset for a target account while supplying our own host produced a genuine email from your domain containing a valid token pointing at our server.
- Why it matters
- Account takeover for any user whose email address is known, with the phishing step removed, because the email really is from you and the user has just asked for it.
- Fix
- Build absolute URLs from configuration rather than from the request, reject unexpected host headers at the web server, and bind the reset token to the account with a short expiry and single use.
Reconstructed from public research: the OWASP Web Security Testing Guide section on weak password reset functionality, and the host header injection class it describes.
Website Penetration Testing: From Scope to Attestation
CREST-aligned methodology built on OWASP Web Security Testing Guide, OWASP ASVS, NIST SP 800-115, and PTES. Each finding maps to all four standards plus your specific compliance regime.
Reconnaissance
Application mapping, technology fingerprinting, content discovery, parameter enumeration, authentication-flow analysis, role-matrix construction.
Vulnerability Assessment
Authenticated and unauthenticated automated scanning across every user role, plus targeted manual checks for known weakness patterns.
Manual Exploitation
Hands-on testing by a CREST-certified pentester. Business-logic exploitation, chained vulnerabilities, privilege escalation, impact validation.
Reporting + Retest
Executive summary, technical report with CVSS scores and reproduction steps, walkthrough call, free retest after remediation, attestation letter.
CREDENTIALS
Verified Accreditations Auditors Accept
Every credential below is independently verifiable. UK procurement teams, FCA supervisors, ISO 27001 / SOC 2 auditors, and cyber insurance underwriters all recognise these standards.

FAQ
Frequently Asked
Is this different from Website assessment testing?
Yes. A website runs someone else code with your content. A Website assessment runs your code. The checks and the price reflect that.
Do you need admin access to the CMS?
A low privileged account and an editor account are ideal. We can test unauthenticated only if you prefer.
Will you test the staging site too?
Yes, and please include it. Staging copies are one of the most common ways real data leaks.
Do you cover WooCommerce or Shopify?
WooCommerce fully. For Shopify we test your apps, theme code and checkout configuration, since the platform itself is not yours to test.
Can you test during business hours?
Yes. We agree the window with you, and heavier checks run out of hours if the site is fragile.
Does this satisfy Cyber Essentials or an insurer?
It supports both. The report maps to ISO 27001, SOC 2 and PCI DSS, and works as evidence of regular testing.
What is included in the price?
Scoping, testing, the executive summary, the technical report, a walkthrough call and free retests until the finding is closed. One scope, one number, no follow-up invoices.
How fast can you start?
Scope to active testing in 24 hours once the scope is agreed, subject to tester availability in your window.
Are your testers CREST certified?
Yes. EJN Labs is a CREST member company and testing is delivered by CREST-qualified testers. The membership is verifiable on the CREST marketplace.
