Jenkins Penetration Testing
Jenkins is usually the oldest machine with the most credentials and the least attention. A controller reachable from the internal network with an unpatched plugin is one of the shortest paths to the whole estate. CREST-certified testers, fixed price from £2,670, scoped in 24 hours.
- Unlimited retesting
- No rescheduling or cancellation fees
- Fixed quote within 24 hours
“I would highly recommend EJN Labs to any organisation seeking reliable, detailed, and well-managed penetration testing services, particularly for government or enterprise-level projects.”
“There wasn’t another company we could find that could deliver what we needed in the timeframe we needed. The client loved it, and we got instant ROI from the engagement.”
A long-lived Jenkins controller accumulates credentials for source control, container registries, cloud accounts and production servers, and it stores them so jobs can use them. Reaching the controller usually means reaching all of it.
Why Jenkins is the highest-value legacy system you own
The script console is the single most direct path, because it executes Groovy on the controller with full privilege. Where anonymous read is enabled, or where a low-privilege user can reach it, the outcome is immediate and total.
Plugins are the slower path and the more common one. Jenkins plugin advisories are frequent and plugins are rarely updated on a schedule, so an installation two years behind carries a long list of known, reachable issues.
ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI DSS and Cyber Essentials Plus audits accept manual penetration test evidence. Scan-only evidence is generally insufficient.
CONSOLE, CREDENTIALS + PLUGINS
What we actually pen test on a Jenkins installation
Manual pen testing across the script console, job configuration, the credential store, plugin vulnerabilities, agent isolation and anonymous access.
Script console and Groovy execution
Whether the script console is reachable and by whom, Groovy sandbox enforcement in pipelines, approval queue handling, and whether a job definition can execute code on the controller.
Credential store exposure
Every stored credential enumerated by scope, whether a job can print or exfiltrate a credential it is permitted to use, credential binding in pipelines, and secrets left in job configuration or build logs.
Authentication and authorisation
Anonymous read access, matrix or role-based strategy configuration, whether a low-privilege user can configure or trigger jobs beyond their remit, and API token handling.
Plugin and core vulnerabilities
Jenkins core and every installed plugin version-matched against the security advisories, with manual verification of anything reachable in your configuration and authentication state.
Agent and node isolation
Agent to controller security, whether agents can reuse workspaces or reach each other, what the agent identity holds, and whether a build can escape to the host.
Exposure and network position
Whether the controller is reachable from the internet or from user networks, TLS configuration, the JNLP and agent ports, and what the controller can reach outbound.
METHODOLOGY
Jenkins Penetration Testing: From Scope to Attestation
CREST-aligned methodology built on OWASP Web Security Testing Guide, OWASP ASVS, NIST SP 800-115, and PTES. Each finding maps to all four standards plus your specific compliance regime.
Reconnaissance
Application mapping, technology fingerprinting, content discovery, parameter enumeration, authentication-flow analysis, role-matrix construction.
Vulnerability Assessment
Authenticated and unauthenticated automated scanning across every user role, plus targeted manual checks for known weakness patterns.
Manual Exploitation
Hands-on testing by a CREST-certified pentester. Business-logic exploitation, chained vulnerabilities, privilege escalation, impact validation.
Reporting + Retest
Executive summary, technical report with CVSS scores and reproduction steps, walkthrough call, free retest after remediation, attestation letter.
CREDENTIALS
Verified Accreditations Auditors Accept
Every credential below is independently verifiable. UK procurement teams, FCA supervisors, ISO 27001 / SOC 2 auditors, and cyber insurance underwriters all recognise these standards.

FAQ
Frequently Asked
Our Jenkins is internal only. Is it worth testing?
Usually the most worth testing. Internal-only tends to mean less hardened, and an attacker who has phished one workstation is on the internal network. We test it from the position an intruder would actually occupy.
Can you test without disrupting builds?
Yes. We avoid triggering production deployment jobs entirely, work read-only on configuration by default, and agree a window for anything that could queue work. Nothing intrusive happens without your sign-off.
Do you need an administrator account?
We want to test as several privilege levels, including anonymous and a standard developer account, because the interesting question is what each can reach. An administrator account helps us enumerate, but the findings come from the lower privileges.
What about Jenkins on Kubernetes?
In scope, and the agent isolation questions get more interesting. Dynamic agents in pods raise service account scope, namespace boundaries and whether a build can reach the cluster API, which we test alongside the Kubernetes page scope if you want both.
What do we receive?
A report mapped to ISO 27001, SOC 2 and Cyber Essentials where relevant, a prioritised remediation plan, and unlimited free retesting until every finding closes.
