SAP Penetration Testing
SAP holds the payroll, the ledger and the supply chain, and it is usually the least tested system in the estate. We test the gateway, the interfaces and the authorisation model that everyone assumes somebody else reviewed. CREST-certified testers, fixed price from £5,240, scoped in 24 hours.
- Unlimited retesting
- No rescheduling or cancellation fees
- Fixed quote within 24 hours
“I would highly recommend EJN Labs to any organisation seeking reliable, detailed, and well-managed penetration testing services, particularly for government or enterprise-level projects.”
“There wasn’t another company we could find that could deliver what we needed in the timeframe we needed. The client loved it, and we got instant ROI from the engagement.”
Most SAP assurance work looks at who can approve a purchase order and who can pay it. That matters, and it says nothing about whether an unauthenticated attacker on the network can talk to the gateway, call a remote function or read the database directly.
SAP security usually means segregation of duties. That is not the same as being secure.
The technical layer is where we work: standard accounts and their default passwords, gateway and message server access control, RFC destinations that store credentials, and the interfaces connecting SAP to everything else in the estate.
Then the web surface. Fiori, the Internet Communication Manager and the various web interfaces expose services that are often reachable from more of the network than anyone realises, and they carry their own authorisation model on top of the classic one.
ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI DSS and Cyber Essentials Plus audits accept manual penetration test evidence. Scan-only evidence is generally insufficient.
SAP SPECIFICS
What We Actually Test in an SAP Estate
Ten areas that apply because the system is SAP, on top of the standard infrastructure checks. Every finding is verified, reproducible and mapped to SAP security notes, CWE and CVSS 3.1.
Standard accounts
Default and service accounts, their passwords, profile parameters and lockout behaviour.
Gateway and message server
Access control lists, registered programs, and whether an unauthenticated caller can register or invoke.
RFC destinations
Stored credentials, trusted relationships between systems, and the path from development to production.
Authorisation objects
Critical objects and profiles, wide assignments, and what a standard business user can reach.
Web and Fiori surface
Exposed services, authentication, tile and catalogue authorisation, and unauthenticated endpoints.
Database layer
Direct database access, HANA configuration where present, and credentials reachable from the application tier.
Transport and change control
Transport paths, developer access in production, and code that can be moved without review.
Custom ABAP
Custom code reachable from the surfaces above, injection and authorisation checks missing from it.
Patch and notes posture
Security notes applied, kernel and component versions, and the issues that remain.
Logging and monitoring
Security audit log configuration, what is retained, and whether this test would have been visible.
METHODOLOGY
What a SAP finding looks like
Written the way a finding appears in our reports. The example below is reconstructed from publicly documented research, with hosts, paths and identifiers redacted. We do not republish client findings, named or anonymised.
Unauthenticated administrator creation on the Java application server
- Affected
- A SAP NetWeaver AS Java instance publishing [redacted] beyond the corporate perimeter.
- What we found
- A configuration component did not enforce authentication, allowing a new administrative user to be created over HTTP with no credentials. The instance was reachable from outside the corporate network, which the network diagram did not show.
- Why it matters
- Complete control of the application server and everything it fronts, including business data and the connections into the ABAP systems behind it.
- Fix
- Apply the SAP security note, remove the component where it is not required, put the instance behind the perimeter or an authenticating reverse proxy, and review user creation logs across the whole period the instance was exposed.
Reconstructed from public research: CVE-2020-6287, known as RECON, a missing authentication check in SAP NetWeaver AS Java, CVSS 3.1 base score 10.0.
SAP Penetration Testing: From Scope to Attestation
CREST-aligned methodology built on OWASP Web Security Testing Guide, OWASP ASVS, NIST SP 800-115, and PTES. Each finding maps to all four standards plus your specific compliance regime.
Reconnaissance
Application mapping, technology fingerprinting, content discovery, parameter enumeration, authentication-flow analysis, role-matrix construction.
Vulnerability Assessment
Authenticated and unauthenticated automated scanning across every user role, plus targeted manual checks for known weakness patterns.
Manual Exploitation
Hands-on testing by a CREST-certified pentester. Business-logic exploitation, chained vulnerabilities, privilege escalation, impact validation.
Reporting + Retest
Executive summary, technical report with CVSS scores and reproduction steps, walkthrough call, free retest after remediation, attestation letter.
CREDENTIALS
Verified Accreditations Auditors Accept
Every credential below is independently verifiable. UK procurement teams, FCA supervisors, ISO 27001 / SOC 2 auditors, and cyber insurance underwriters all recognise these standards.

FAQ
Frequently Asked
Do you need SAP access?
A business user account is the realistic starting point. Configuration review needs a read-only technical account.
Is this a segregation of duties audit?
No. That is a different discipline and usually already covered. This is technical penetration testing of the platform.
Which products do you cover?
ECC and S/4HANA, with the surrounding NetWeaver components, Fiori and the interfaces. Tell us your landscape and we will confirm.
Will testing disrupt production?
We work in a sandbox or quality system wherever possible, and anything run against production is agreed in writing first.
Can you test our custom ABAP?
The reachable parts, yes. A full source review is the secure code review service.
Do you work with our SAP partner?
Yes. Most of our SAP engagements run alongside the client implementation partner, who fixes what we find.
What is included in the price?
Scoping, testing, the executive summary, the technical report, a walkthrough call and free retests until the finding is closed. One scope, one number, no follow-up invoices.
How fast can you start?
Scope to active testing in 24 hours once the scope is agreed, subject to tester availability in your window.
Are your testers CREST certified?
Yes. EJN Labs is a CREST member company and testing is delivered by CREST-qualified testers. The membership is verifiable on the CREST marketplace.
